EXCURSUS IV -
Saxophone Quartet
Besides his activities as a solo performer, Floris also plays Alto Saxophone in the Excursus IV saxophone Quartet.
Excursus IV is a saxophone quartet based in Rochester, NY.
Colin Crake (Soprano), Floris Van der Veken (Alto), Wesley Taylor (Tenor) and Leonardo Aguilar (Baritone) met at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where they were all studying under the guidance of Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin.
The quartet was formed in 2021, and although they've only been playing together for a short amount of time, they've been very active as a quartet ever since.
In a collaboration with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, they played multiple concerts in Dallas, TX, as part of a weekend dedicated to the music of John Mackey.
During the 2021 Conference of the Rochester Chamber Music Society, Excursus IV collaborated with the composer HyeKyung Lee to perform her piece 'Embrace'.
In April 2022, the quartet will compete in the final round of the NASA biennial saxophone quartet competition.
